USPL UPDATE FINAL FOUR

The final four in the DC Challenge are:

ARSENAL vs DYNASTY
Big big match up here the new boys vs the old pros of the 7 man format. DC who are the 'home' team have been solid all weekend and should continue to roll on the wave. Dynasty need to dig into their experience to beat Arsenal.

BLAST VS IMPACT
Blast are due a final spot - the talent in this team is second to none. They went undefeated in the Quarter final round in which they beat both the 2 team in the other semi final match up which are Arsenal and Dynasty.

I'm hoping for a Blast Arsenal final and to meet up with a very happy Ken Tsuda in 2 weeks with lots of stories to tell us.

XSV
XSV was 5th and missed out on the 4th semi final spot by a mere 2 kills. Both Impact and XSV had 3 wins and 4 losses but Impact had 336 points to XSV's 332.

USPL DC CHALLENGE. I preview the field layout with Rob Monteiro of SF Explicit.

Welcome to the DC challenge. We're in Obama town in D.C and my source tells me the "field is great". The Friday division games are currently being played as I type this and I have the pleasure of getting feedback directly from Rob Montiero of San Francisco Explicit who is right there right now and telling me about how the field is like and how the division teams are playing it.

Let have a look at the field layout with Rob Monterio:

The field has nothing much running down the center after the 20s - its quite bare in the 50 center. So we going to get monumental gun fights on the sides. The key is to push up from the break and look for the cross and get some quick kills before the other side counters your front guys by bunkering or wrapping them out.

SNAKE SIDE
The snake is 20 meters long and every decent pro team would have a decent snake fighter. With only two bricks as stops in the snake, it is a real set up for a big show down in there. Its not like a typical multi stop snake where you can run 2 guys in there. In this snake is 1 vs 1 at a time.

GAME FEEDBACK FROM ROD is that that most of the divisional teams who push past the first brick to snake 2 on the break, tend to win games. However bear in mind these are divisional teams - the pros might work something different and would be better at putting down lanes to prevent this.

CARWASH
On the other side of the field is the huge U block between 2 car washes. Rob describes it as the "strong" side. The battle is going to be on the tape side but you also go to look in on the cross. The huge beam pretty much makes bunkering easy as it's very protected from the cross field. Its a risk and reward game in the car wash: shoot tape side to kill your mirror and defend any bunkering move - or look cross for the kill. I think most teams will put 2 guys in the car washes because if you get into their carwash you'd be picking them off easily.

You'd need a guy in the 20 dorito to protect your car wash guy. But the 20 dorito is also set up to cross down field.

There are 5 bunkers across the back line- be interesting to see which ones the pros leave out.

Its a field for fast guys and fast gun skills.

Thank you Rob for your comments.

SECOND LOOK DYE WHITE CAMO ROTOR

I posted this over a month ago and got told to take it down - now that its officially been revealed- I'm reposting it minus the picture of the arm pads.

Ignore the Deathstix logo- the Australians stuck them on when they were there earlier in that morning.

At Dye Asia with Keichi's Mikko Huttunen DM9 and the white camo Rotor on it which looks really sweet. I think the white camo rotor with blue accent kit would make the rotor look really nice on the MHDM9.

Mikko has sold all his 15 limited edition MHDM9s and had to use a black M8 at the Ironmen clinic 2 weekends ago in Finland.

Here is the official release poster with the new i4

THE SHORT REPORT

Propaintball.com reports that former LTZ/Infamous/Bushwackers player SHANE HOWE will be playing on San Francisco Explicit along with GREG SIEWERS. The Shane and Greg show will be on San Diego Aftermath for X-Ball and SF Explicit for 7-man.

PRINCE has told me that he is still on Bushwackers and the team is still alive despite losing 2 guys, but are low on cash.

TYLER HARMON posted on my Facebook wall that Greg Siewers is still munching on Vegemite down under in Australia.

XSV tweeted to say that they are already in DC and seeing the sights.

Brandon Short and Davey Williamson celebrate their birthdays this week. Happy Birthday Guys.

And finally SBEN, Shane Howe is looking for you.

PB HEADLINES

What have I been up to?

Tweeting on twitter.com/seburo and I have also created a new Tweet PB HEADLINES where the truth is just not that you read. I very much prefer to Tweet- I mean how much trouble can I get into with 140 characters?

Plus I wont get "lame" comments from people who have enough brain cells to come up with one worded comments. Really dude don't over extend yourself - having that extra chromosome can be quite limiting to ones communication skills.

I have also been also "pimping" players and guns for the WCA- World Cup Asia. Its pretty amazing to have pros asking about coming over the WCA from the USA and Canada. Currently the WCA won't allow pros to guest for D1 teams but....

Paintball is a Legit Xtreme Sport

This is for those who came from the Xtreme National Park Skate Park Championships on Facebook.

YES PAINTBALL IS A LEGIT XTREME SPORT- heck we even have a FRACKIN TV SHOW.

HOW ABOUT INCLUDING THE ONLY EXTREME TEAM SPORT?

[No Sports Council logo- Check]

Ok these "Singapore Xtreme Championship 2009" guys left out the only Team Extreme Sport and went with a "safe" programe like the normal skate and shit. Actually they went with "sports" which are all held within a skate park (which was built by the National Parks)... So it really should be called "Singapore National Parks Skate Park Championship".

Despite working with the National Parks for SNPS 2, they have overlooked Paintball as an extreme sport or something that can be included in this event. Could this be like that Suria TV "Sports" programe who shot a scene at the Red Dynasty Paintball field but totally disregared Paintball as a sport and showed it just as a side show?

I guess Paintball is just not "sporting element enough" for the higher ups in Singapore...

TELL US WHERE THE FRACKING HIT IS

“I thought you were out....’’

– the marshall's reply to Ben when he asked where the hit was on him which turned out to be nothing it was a ghost hit. Ben had 2 wrong calls on him and had a mysterious 1 for 1 call on him. Getting a 1 for 1 penalty because a marshall made a mistake is a bitter pill to swallow because it was THE MARSHALL's mistake that costs us the game not us infringing the rules.

That quote just about summed up the standard of the marshalling on the weekend. Abysmal.

I thought you were a real marshal and you call someone out only if they are HIT.

I thought when you call a 1 for 1 you pull ONE guy and NOT TWO.

I thought when you CLEAR a player to "play on" after a paint check your don't change your mind and decide its "playing on" and call a '1 for 1'.

I thought when you call "play on" after a paint check your colleagues doesn't come along on the other side and decide its "playing on" and call a 'one for one'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok we there are no more 'un-obvious hit' anymore - each player has to be aware of hits on his pack etc.

FINE I wont argue with that and live with it

HOWEVER I would like something else in return.

Can the marshals please tell us where we're hit? Surely it is not too much to ask that you just say where you think you saw me get hit. Head/arm/ hopper/leg etc? Just tell us on top of the call where the hit is. You saw it- make the call and where the hit is. Don't just yell 'out' from the sidelines for the sake of yelling it. GET IN THERE AND MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHERE THE HIT IS and TELL US.

This is not something new - Dan Perez who is the ultimate at the former
NPPL and now the USPL, advocates communicating with the players where
they are hit. "It makes the referees jobs easier and the players accept
the calls better."

I dare say if a ref has to tell us where the hit is- he would have to be fracking damn sure it is a real hit before he calls you out. And we can cut out the "I thought you were out" rubbish.

In the light of the marshalls making so many bad calls- this will also give the marshall to CORRECT HIS CALL. Because THE MARSHALLS NEED A CHANCE TO CORRECT A BAD CALL IN THE GAME. Saying 'sorry its a mistake' after the game is a bit too late and has ruined too many games.

For international tournaments - even if the players or the referees don't speak English a simple finger pointing to the spot would suffice. Point to the arm leg or hopper- or get in there and show the player where he is hit- would stop all these ghost- calls of non-hits.

As much as I hate to criticize the marshals - I am not going to just slam them in my blog - I will speak to Junaidi and Ulrich about it at the World Cup. I think its a simple thing in implement and will go a long way to make things easier for all parties.

If I had 10 mins with the marshalls I would clear all this crap out.

UNSPORTSMANLIKE

I have a bone to pick with teams who pull no shows. There are the usual teams who sign up but don't show up at all, teams who lose 6-8 games on Saturday and then go home rather than playing on. And now there is a new time low - a team who made it to Sunday and didn't bother to rock up.

It shameful, its selfish, small minded and disrespectful to the sport and all the teams who rock up and play their hearts out. Especially to the teams who did not qualify - that spot is wasted on them when they don't rock up on Sunday.

When we screwed up our Saturday in Leg 3 - our last opponent skipped out on us denying us any chance to score any points to squeeze into Sunday. Thus we were effectively out on contention, however we had 2 games left on Sunday which were redundant.

We could have gone just packed up and gone home. But there was no question of not turning up on Sunday. We decided on Sat afternoon that we would play ALL our games no matter what. All 7 of us guys got up on Sunday morning, rocked up at the field, suited up and podded up ready to play our remaining 2 games. To add insult to our injury - 1 of the 2 teams didn't rock up so we got up only to play 1 game on that Sunday.

Last Sunday 1 of the 8 teams didn't show up and they happen to be in our group. That put more pressure on the other 3 teams because we each would have 1 walkover in hand. I see it as glass half empty- lose 1 game and you'd probably be out straight away. Win one and you'd most probably be in because you have 2 wins in hand.

When teams don't bother to finish playing their 10 preliminary games- it also effects the other teams who are trying to qualify and teams who are trying to score points for overall championships. They deny any possible chance to score points.

When I first started playing- I was naive - when an opponent doesn't show - I was happy because it meant "free" 'win' for us and I save some money on paints. Now that I'm a little bit more savvy and can see the bigger picture - to me it means disrespecting the game and the other teams and as well as denying teams from scoring points.

If you cant cut it to play all your obligated games - then don't sign up. Don't show up if you don't intend to play all your 10 preliminary games. Don't deny the other teams a spot on Sunday if you qualify and don't rock up.

PBGOSSIP TOLD TO REMOVE POST ON EYD NEW GUNS

http://www.pbgossip.com/epicfail.html

Hahahahahha I know how you guys feel...

DYE to Release New Gun

Before you guys at Dye freak out- I'm just repeating what is already up at Propaintball.com
http://www.propaintball.com/2009/08/dye-to-release-new-paintball-gun/

I for one am glad there is a date for the release which is the 15th of September even though this date is just a rumor none the less.

As for what I know about the "DM10" or "DMx" - I have to bite my tongue for now but I can say that the Ironmen did a photo shoot for 2010 stuff at the beginning of this week.

i4 sunglasses/face shield*

Gerald was the one who said the i4 lens looks cool as pair of sunglasses so I've been tinkering with it. If you slip a spare strap in the holes on the side - presto you'd have an instant big sunglass or face shield which is pretty cool.

Just slip in the ends of any strap into the square holes and it'll hold nicely.

For those who coach or crew X Ball matches - wearing your mask upside down and getting a long mark across your face is a ting of the past. This easy and fast to put together and is much more light weight compared to having to wear your mask upside down.

How about it Ollie? You going to try it?

*Dye Asia in no way had any part in this post. Please don't be calling people up at 2am about it.

Will the real HK Army Jersey Please Stand Up?

Which jersey is the 2009 HK Army Jersey?

THIS ONE?

OR THIS ONE?

This video was shot last weekend at the USPL West Coast Open. You can see Bobby Aviles wearing the HK jersey with the distinctive white strip on his shoulders which is which is the padding. That is definitely a jersey by Tanked as the Team Germany jersey has the same padding on the upper body.

Stay tuned for the answer.

BTW Scott I want one. Can you please hook me up?

FURIOUS BARRELS IN THE WORLD GAMES FINAL

[ PHOTO my Photomonkey]

The story behind the Furious Barrel in the World Games Paintball Final is that the 16 inch dust black actually belongs to Mark Hobny from Team Canada. He shoots a wicked custom etched DM9* (with a dragon) on it with a Furious Lotus Barrel.

Team Germany were all shooting Luxes with CP barrels. By the time the Finals started late Sunday afternoon they (like everyone else) were having problems with guns and loaders going down. And most teams like Germany had to borrow guns. It was great to see the spirit of co-operation going around everyone offering to lend guns to anyone who needed guns. The Australians were lending their Ego9s to the Germans and the Canadians were lending their DM9s etc.

Mark was the only African American player at the tournament- can't miss him. He's played in D2 in America and in the Millennium Series.

So that's how Mark's DM9 with the 16 inch Lotus barrel made its humble contribution to Team Germany's gold medal victory.

ANOTHER AWESOME STORY about Mark Hobny
Mark took a dive in the Doritos and his Furious barrel got caught in the dirt and was clogged up. He took the barrel off and kept shooting in the air with out a barrel. At first I thought he was just shooting loudly to keep his mirror in his bunker. But I realised Mark was lobbing paint in the general direction of his mirror.

What was amazing was Mark got lucky and lobbed a shot in and got his mirror in the goggles!

The play of the tournament - shooting and beating your guy without a barrel.

PRO PAINTBALL's USPL West Coast Open, Sunday Video

This is a good video from Propaintball.com. Check out Kenny Tsuda shooting bumping 15 sec-25 sec mark. Those Bob Longs are shooting damn sweet.
